John Henton

I'm a third year Law student at the University of Glasgow. Law is definitely the subject for me so much so that I can't imagine studying anything else! I love talking with and meeting new people and am considering a job as a university lecturer/tutor in the future. In June 2015, I worked as a volunteer junior law tutor for Law in Action (REACH). This involved working with senior school pupils from deprived areas who were interested in studying Law at Glasgow University. As a junior tutor, I helped to chair a tutorial discussion on the human right of freedom of expression with one of these groups. As well as the tutorial, we helped prepare the pupils for a moot debate on the issues discussed. Overall, this was a rewarding experience which relied heavily on my verbal and written communication skills as well as my ability to work well in a team. I hope to return next year as a Senior Tutor. Following this, I think tutoring would be an ideal way of getting more experience teaching subjects I am passionate about. My favourite areas of Law are Constitutional, EU, and Human Rights among many others. I have lots of experience in the field, having had placements with the Procurator Fiscal service, the NHS Central Legal Office and the EIS trade union to name just a few! If it isn't already, I hope I can make Law as much of a passion for you as it is for me.
