P had some contractual rights (but NOT ownership) over some goods that were damaged due to D’s (carrier’s) negligence. HL denied P’s tortious claim since in order to make a claim in tort regarding damage to possessions, you have to have legal ownership or possessory title, at the time when the goods were damaged.
