Judgement for the case R v Secretary of State ex parte Kirkstall

 The chairman of a planning committee had a shareholding in a rugby club that applied for planning permission. Slade J held that the rules as to the disqualification of a decision maker for bias were not limited in scope to judicial decisions. Thus they applied here too and the decision was overturned.
