Judgement for the case Derbyshire CC v Times Newspapers (Sunday Times)

A local authority wanted to sue a newspaper for defamation.
HL ruled that a local authority/government/executive body could not sue for defamation since society required that people be able to criticise the government absolutely freely and uninhibited and to allow the government to sue people for defamation would detract from freedom of speech.
